Kami watched Kagetora sleep. At least, he hoped he was asleep and not passed out from the saké. They’d been drinking quite a bit and Kami was fairly certain that the young lord had laid down on his own. It had been nearly a year since he’d returned home from the temple and his hair was growing out nicely.
The way Kagetora was laying -halfway on his stomach, head resting on his arm, his other arm bent and laying in front of a saké cup- voluntary or not, probably wasn’t too comfortable. But it was cute. Kami had noticed that the young lord’s saké intake had increased since his father had become ill about a month ago.
Kami decided Kagetora would be a lot more comfortable in his futon and his buzzed brain set about moving him. Sure, he could have called in a couple of servants, but he knew Kagetora (still not completely comfortable with ‘bothering’ the servants, even though it was their job), and he figured the servants would like their normal downtime.
He set down his saké cup and crawled to Kagetora’s side. He tucked some hair behind his friend’s ear, smiling when it didn’t all stay. He carefully rolled him onto his back. He made a noise, but didn’t wake. Kami picked him up and brought him to his futon. After covering his friend up, he closed the fusuma to the courtyard since it had started to rain harder. He then went to the other room and neatened their mess up a bit before looking back to Kagetora.
He was panting, but not awake. Kami finished up and rejoined Kagetora, sitting near his head and running his hand through his hair. He quietly cried out, but calmed down and seemed to sleep better. He’d been having vivid dreams for a few weeks, which had been eating away at his sleep.
Several hours later, Kami sensed the change in the atmosphere and left Kagetora’s side, leaving a note for him. Placing a kiss on the young lord’s forehead, he quietly left the compound.
