Though Sho was actually at home (at a decent hour!) in the apartment, he didn't have a land line phone. It was his cellphone that was ringing, which was still shoved in his briefcase. He rolled off his bed, which he'd flopped on as soon as he'd walked into the apartment, rolled up his sleeves and loosened his tie as he dug for the device.
The name on the caller ID made him smile.
"Hello~" he answered just in time, almost missing that last note of his ringtone.
Another reason to be here, Aiba mused as he listened to the repetitive ring of Sho's phone with no answer, was that this was as far as Aiba could get them from the scene of the...'crime'. That had to count for something, right?
When Sho answered, Aiba was dragged rather abruptly out of his thoughts on this and when he responded, his voice did not sound entirely normal. Not the usual at ease he always was talking with his human.
"Sho? Hi it's me. I um- are you home? Right now?" he ventured, staring at the doorknob of Sho's apartment door. You're being ridiculous. Just go in. And yet Aiba stayed right where he was for the moment. He was pretty sure it was some physical manifestation of denial.
Something was different. Sho could sense immediately through Aiba's tone that something wasn't quite right. He hoped that there was nothing too serious going on. It was never easy to see something affect Aiba's mood in a negative manner.
"I'm home," Sho answered and placed one hand on his hip, "Did you want to come over?"
If that was the case, then Sho had given him permission, and if it wasn't then maybe he'd planted the idea in Aiba's brain just now. Which he didn't think was such a bad thing if it meant his boyfriend showed up at his apartment. Long days called for long... kisses.
Now or never, wasn't it. Aiba picked at a loose thread on one of the knees of his jeans.
"I'm kind of here already. I mean. I am here already." Sighing into the phone, Aiba gathered all of the strength he had in him for what he would have to do.
"I'm outside the door. I really- I need to talk to you, it's kind of important." Aiba really didn't want to worry Sho, or concern him, but Aiba was pretty sure at this point there was no way he was getting out of this without upsetting Sho in one way or another. It was so hard, when all Aiba wanted to do was fall into Sho and just love and be together and let everything else just go away, for a little while.
