Slamming out of her home had probably not been a wise idea, Misono reflected as she headed up town. She had no money, no coat, no cell phone, not even Pinch or Kenichi or Yoda. The only reason she had her keys with her at all was because they'd fallen off in her hand when she'd thrown her phone at Yesung's head. Stupid, jerk-y Yesung who shouted and was a jerk! She let herself into Come Again, slamming the door behind her. "Aiba-chan! Aiba-chan, I am really upset," she shouted as she went to the stairs.
Nothing. No answer, no little pop-and-an-Aiba. She checked the whole shop and then went upstairs and checked the whole apartment. Nothing. No Aiba at all. Well. Well, that was okay, she reasoned. Yesung was going to realize he was a stupid jerkface and come get her and bring her home anyhow. He was probably going to be here any minute. He'd have to knock because she'd locked the door again but that was okay. He could pound on it and scream her name and it'd be just like a movie. So it was better if Aiba wasn't here. Plopping down in Aiba's chair, she waited. After a while, a long, long while, she got up and pulled Dumbo down off his shelf and sat down with him, fussing at his ears. "He's totally gonna show up," she said softly.
But he didn't. And neither did Aiba. Misono caught herself nodding off miserably. "Maybe we should take a nap, huh?" she whispered to the elephant. She was so tired. She'd worked herself too hard in preparing for the holidays. Late nights working on presents, every stitch from her own hands, and all the luck she'd had to sell or trade to get everything together--her magic didn't come from nowhere, it came from her. Giving it out used her up. "Just a little nap. With Melvin. Because his brother and his papa aren't here and he's lonely," she decided.
Only there was no Melvin. But of course there wasn't--Aiba had taken him along; Melvin was just a baby. "Just you and me, huh," she said to Dumbo. "But that's fine. We're just fine on our own together." Misono shed her clothes and pulled the blankets over her head. Aiba's bed smelled sweetly, warmly smokey, a little earthy and bright. It smelled like Aiba. She curled around the lone stuffed elephant and wished it smelled like sunshine and turnip greens and mustard seed and nutmeg. She wished it smelled like Yesung, even just a little. Eyes burning in more ways then one, she went to sleep.
