Three things:

1. You can find September's post for the giving and receiving of recommendations here.

2. Next weekend will be our discussion of How I Created My Perfect Prom Date, so I hope you'll all be around for that. It's a pretty delightful book if I do say so myself, and I do since I finished it this week.

3. It's banned books week! Go read ( Read more... )

This has not been a productive reading week. I finished Howards End and How I Created My Perfect Prom Date, but that's really it. I'll just go ahead and blame premiere week.

I did start a book that I'm pretty into so far, The Flanders Panel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, which is a Spanish translation? Obviously I'm reading it for reasons, but it's essentially an investigation of a historical mystery so far, which is something I love, but people might like it.

Yeah, I did not have a productive week either. I have BANNED MYSELF from LJ until I get this fic turned in, but I knew this post was going up and I had to sneak on briefly.

I just read the Amazon summary of The Flanders Panel, and it sounds reallllly interesting. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I wish you luck with your fic finishing!!! I feel like I haven't seen you around in forever, but that's mostly because I haven't had the energy for tumblr or twitter catching up.

Based on the fifty pages I've read so far, I'd recommend it! I'll let you know how I feel about it when I'm done, haha.

THANK YOU! I have long since hit the word count, now I just need to wrap up the story. I know :(! I honestly haven't been around much this week at all anyway between work and big bang and apartment hunting. Which yes, I am still doing :P

Excellent! I hope you continue to enjoy! :D

I've been talking about this with other people, but what book fandoms are people thinking of nominating? If you have a favorite, pimp it and see if you can't persuade people to give it a try before the sign ups start.

I really want some His Dark Materials fic. Can I be the one to bring this fandom back, lol. Actually, there never was really a fandom for it. BUT THAT'S OKAY. BRINGING IT BACK ANYWAY.

Oh, and I have the Pink Carnation series sitting on my shelf waiting to get read after I take the LSAT. And I suspect that that will move up too to wanting to get suggested.

What sort of HDM fic are you thinking?

I am eagerly awaiting your reading the Pink Carnation books. When's your LSAT test date?

I really would love some Asriel/Coulter background. Or Lyra dealing with the aftermaths of TAS and being back in her Oxford are traveling and doing the things she's done and living the life she's done and being older but in a young girl's body. IDK. It's a lot to think about.

AHH! I am so excited to read them. LSAT is next weekend. The 1st of October. After that comes applications, but that's not as time consuming.

I've started The Writer's Tale by Russell T. Davies and Benjamin Cook and WOW, if you want to write, AT ALL, READ THIS! Even if you're not a Doctor Who fan, you will (I think) get a LOT out of it. You basically get to see into RTD's brain and all the weird insecurities and thoughts about writing that people just don't talk about enough.

I also read How I Created My Perfect Prom date! Which was cute! And I finished Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley, which was one of those books which was FINE, but just didn't click. (I so wanted it, too. It's a fun premise and I like the characters! So don't take it as a non-rec.) And then I finished The Moon by Night and started on The Young Unicorns.

RIGHT?!?!?! I still need to finish it, but it's just so revealing and I can't believe that he actually let someone publish all of that. I loved his Who anyway, but it made me love it even more.

Aw, I wanted that book to be awesome. Maybe I'll read it anyway, idk. And you got through Zachary! That's awesome. I got A Ring of Endless Light out this week, but I haven't made any progress on it.

Yeah, I'm not very far at all, but WOW. I also kind of love all their Skins talks, haha? Not because I have particular love for Skins--I kind of wish I remembered it better, though--but because YES. That's how I like to talk about shows, kind of dissect them and talk about what's not working and why.

You should! Because it really did feel like one of those cases where it was ME, not the book. Though another friend said she felt the same way, so IDK.

Haha, I don't mind Zachary though! It's kind of bad how much I can almost identify with him these days. Or maybe just UNDERSTAND? I'm not that kind of self-destructive, but I think I have similar battles.

YES. The Skins stuff was one of my favorite things to read, I think because of what you say and because I like it when television is taken seriously. Even with other writers and directors and stuff, I sometimes get the feeling that they'd rather be doing movies, but I never get the sense that Davies feels like he's slumming.

Hmm. I'll keep it mind, but I've got other things ahead of it PLUS I'm going to get more books soon from my August order, so I'm not in a hurry or anything.

Yeah, I do get that part of him. I wish I didn't. But I do. I'd still rather read about Adam.

Not a very good week for reading. Been rereading a little of The Time Travelers series here and there, but nothing substantial. Banned Books week! My English Grammar professor is giving us extra credit if we diagram a sentence from a banned book on the sidewalk (with chalk) outisde the library. It is a fun idea so I will be participating. Since we have only learned pretty basic diagramming so far, my sentence from The Fellowship of the Ring is "Gimli drew his axe from his belt." Very basic, but easy to diagram which was the point, haha!

GUYS

Who's read Connie Willis? Because I need to gush about the AWESOME. I've read To Say Nothing of the Dog and Blackout and All Clear, and I've just reread Bellwether, and I'm in the middle of Passage for the first time, and OH THE CHILLS. It is SO GOOD so far.
