I believe the fic you want is Masks, by L. Mouse. Warning: it's novel-length and really well-written, so be prepared to be absorbed in it for a good while.
Highly recommended.

This is the one I was looking for. Thanks so much for the help. I am sorry it took me so long to respond. Unfortunately, will all of the job hunting, I haven't had much free time to go online.
