Horned Hands Celebrating Death 05272013

May 27, 2013 12:45

Pre-battle feast and ales at Max's Taproom with friends.
Very odd day as MDF organizers didn't do anything to compensate for Carpathian Forest having pulled out and
Venom's set abruptly ended to a fire marshal not on the same page as permit issuers.

Breakdown:
►Pagan Altar -Very impressed;so much better live than their recordings.
►Sacred Reich - ( Read more... )

music, mdf, vacation, metal

The excuse being given on Farcebook is that there was a change in curfew time that the fest was supposed to be given a pass on but the local constabulary changed their minds last minute. I believe there's tension between the fest and the city.

I think this is the last year it's gonna be at that venue... Possibly last year of outside...

That kind of crap has happened in Dallas but with farmer's markets and later with food trucks.
One office issues the permit, another enforces them and neither are in sync.

MDF needs to get a larger venue and better event planner[s] -their continued trouble with security basics
shouldn't be happening and it is ultimately their responsibility -despite saying it's out of their hands.

Funny how the organizers state they're not getting a % off alcohol and other sales. If they were smart,
they could grow the fest and quit their day jobs -and still keep it "about the music".

At least one of the organizers is already at the "live off the fest" point. Ryan lives in Czech Republic and only does a few fests a year... I believe he does Obscene Extreme in Czech Republic and I *think* he is or was involved in Brutal Assault (also a Czechfest). I believe he teaches English Part time over there and has bucks...

Part of the problem is that he's let "other people" handle details like who exactly gets hired as security and that's probably going to get changed... Or at least they're gonna look closer at who they bring in.

I think there's also a bit of an issue with the whole "Baltimore wants the money, but they don't want the people that come with it" issue in regards to the crowd that the fest draws.

It goes back to *really old* issues in the city itself. Which are pretty much all race/class/income issues.

Been following your updates - looks like it was a killer fest.

I will endeavour to get my sorry arse over there next year, even if I have to hock a few things to do so.

Good time -not as "action-packed" for bands I like but it provided breathing room.
WTF pictures coming for a Metal Community post later today.
