Sam had been wandering around the house in a daze ever since Lilly's bombshell news from earlier today -- the sort of daze where he finished all his chores unthinkingly and then suddenly stopped and wondered when exactly he'd gotten around to putting away the clean laundry

Cole was pacing and had been since Lilly left. He was still babbling about what they needed to buy or do before the baby arrived.

Phoebe had been feeling better after talking with Veronica and she let herself into the house in the evening. She figured she would try to slip inside and upstairs while trying to decide on how to tell guys.

That would be why she drew up to a stop when she saw both of them obviously waiting for her.

"Hey. Everything alright?"

The answer she got from Sam was in the form of an immediate hug -- and then he pulled back abruptly as if he was afraid to squeeze her too hard.

"You didn't say!"

Cole wrapped his arms around her, too. "Sit down," he said, guiding her toward the couch. "You should stay off your feet." Because clearly pregnant meant extremely fragile.

"I was afraid that you guys wouldn't want a baby so soon and..." She looked at Cole. "That we would be a target again if anyone found out I was pregnant."

"I've wanted this for years," Sam murmured as he kissed her cheek. "Babe, I will call in every favor I can ever call in from anyone in this town and anyone I ever knew who can help to make sure you and the baby are gonna be safe."

"No one's going to hurt you," Cole said. "I'll make sure of that. You and the baby will be fine."

Phoebe looked at them. "So... so you guys are... you're okay with this?" Relief was starting to show in her eyes... as well as excitement.

She looked at Anders and Cole. "Guys... don't you understand? When I go through it, it can get bad enough... but feeling both of you having the sickness and queasiness makes it that much worse on me."

For once, Phoebe had decided not to try to shield them from what she was feeling or going through.

Sam sighed. "I guess I could do without that. I just don't want to take any chances with you."

"Don't want to make you feel worse," Cole said unhappily.

Phoebe sniffled, ducking her head. "And I don't want you guys upset or worried..."
