It is an incredibly stupid thing we humans do, loving animals. But I suppose it only fits in with all of the other incredibly stupid things we do, like having friends, having children, or becoming emotionally invested in professional sports. We sure do love setting ourselves up for the fall.

You know how devestated I was when Zach died, and I can only imagine how the uncertainty of this situation makes it so much worse. Losing a pet is a real and valid loss and deserves the right of grieving as much as other kind. My thoughts are with you. If there's anything I can possibly do to distract or comfort you, please let me know.

Yeah, hope levels are wavering around the 3-5% range, which in its own way is kind of worse.

But, Josie is a spoiled brat who won't stay away from the house more than six hours without coming home to whine for her tuna. And there are a lot of roads where people go to fast nearby, and she's got a history of getting into catfights (and has been getting hurt in them a lot more often in recent years).

But I'm still telling her to prove me wrong.

I don't want to get your hopes up -- I've had cats just up and vanish, and it's always heartbreaking -- but I've also had cats vanish for weeks and then come home like nothing ever happened. Two of our cats disappeared together for something a week and half and then came home within a day of each other.

It's terrible, because there's nothing you can do either way. But a day and a half isn't enough time to give hope entirely.

Yeah, I know, and I haven't given up entirely. But I also know Josie, and it's just not like her, and all the other factors mentioned above.

Oh, man, I'm really sorry. Even if she turns out to be okay, I'm really sorry for the worry you're going through.

Stiltzkin and I will pour a 40 of catnip on the curb for her tonight.
