It is an incredibly stupid thing we humans do, loving animals. But I suppose it only fits in with all of the other incredibly stupid things we do, like having friends, having children, or becoming emotionally invested in professional sports. We sure do love setting ourselves up for the fall.

I can't really offer anything that hasn't been said before, except that I'm really sorry, and I've been there, and I completely agree with your boss's decision.

I'm so sorry, sweetie. I'm glad your boss let you come home early; I hope the time alone/not around a bajillion people helps a little. Even if you know enough to lose a little faith, we will keep it for you!

I don't think it's still entirely processed for me that my dog won't be coming home. I keep hearing her collar jangling, or her barking outside, or--when I'm half asleep, like I always was when she did that--her scratching at the door. I think of it a little like the way stars. They're gone, but their presence hasn't left the house yet, because they've just always been in your life and in your awareness for so long they've left a big ol' pet shaped imprint on it.

Jemma got so stiff she couldn't walk near the end. A sad thing, because one of the things she'd loved best was to tear around top speed. I like to think, wherever she is, she's hauling ass at a million miles an hour now.

But right now I still wish it were possible for her to come home. So, yeah. My thoughts are with you. It's just been a dreadful year for pets.

My thoughts are with you. God knows how upset I get when I /know/ what bad thing is going on with my pets. It's rough no matter what form this sort of thing takes.
