In my head, Mai's mother disapproves more of the fact they are made of straw than the fact they are sandals. This is Not Appropriate for good young noble girls.

Naruzi rolls his eyes at his sister and ignores her rules when she's not around.

I think my favorite bits are the casual relationship with her uncle, the explanation as to why Mai is a year older than Ty Lee and Azula, and Mai's interest for knives is piqued. :)

I've always been interested in Mai's relationship with her uncle. Her parents seem rather distant and uncaring, but her uncle goes out of his way to be vindictive to her loser ex-boyfriend and give her a shot to be vindictive to him too.
