I have to admit, I'm one of those who likes a good plot. It's not that there's anything wrong with a quick character piece or a 'slice of life' snippet, exactly... but quick character pieces and 'slice of life' snippets are relatively common. Fully plotted stories do take more time and call for holding interest in the work for a lot longer. I know I have difficulty keeping my attention on a subject for that long, so I assume other people do as well ( ... )

And the point when someone says, "I'm good enough," is the point when someone stops striving to improve, and I'm not really sure how preferable that attitude is, anyway.

True, but there's never feeling you don't have anything left to improve (which is good), and then there's saying "I suck at writing; I'll never be any good" and being disheartened (which isn't good). After all, what is a good writer if not a former sucky writer who silenced the "I'll never be any good" voices long enough to keep practicing?

I know, but she never, at any point, said 'I suck' in her post. ;)

That's because if there's one thing I'm confident in about my writing, it's that I don't suck. ;-)

Honestly, the point of the meme is not to write some long, 'complete' story. In fact, by writing a long, 'complete' story, one is sort of defeating the purpose of the meme. Now deriving a long story from a short work is one things, but one loses the spontaneity and the benefit of writing a lot of diverse ideas in a short time.

Besides, long=!better. It generally takes more skill to write something sort and good than something long and good. I read a collection of 50 word stories by good authors, and it was impressive what they managed to convey in so few words.

Besides, long=!better.

Example: My reply was longer. Luna's reply was better. ;)

Yep. Drabbles and haiku are literary forms that take skill.

I like "Lady or the Tiger?"-type endings, but yes, they tend to invite "ZOMG continue!" responses. Heck, short fics that are self-contained with proper endings get "ZOMG rite more!" replies - it's just something you'll have to learn to live with, I'm afraid.

And of course your writing is good; otherwise I wouldn't have said so. That's regardless of whether its "stories" - sure, it's cool when someone can come up with a whole complete juicy plot, but short "moment in time" flashfic has its place too. Both can be goodfic. Don't flog yourself just because you're not one for huge plots much. Was O. Henry a lesser writer than, say, Dostoievsky just because he specialised in short stories? Each has their own specialty.

Also, what Luna said.
