Eventually the DMV'll level up your Materia slots so your HP+ will gain levels and then you can use the Materia Fusion system (OMG REFER TO THE FRICKING GUIDE BOOK FOR THIS) to make new materia. So your HP+ materia can turn into an HP++ materia and your Cure Materia can turn into a Regen materia and so on.
As for the equipment, you'll get a ton and switch it out. Sometimes you'll need or want to be invulnerable to a specific type of magic or something. Particularly on the training missions because the enemies are all preset so if you get owned by a fire spell you can go put on your fire resist gear and so on.

I gave about two minutes' thought to looking up an on-line FAQ for the materia fusion thing and then went NO THANK YOU I WILL WAIT FOR THE GUIDE. One thing I am wondering about--currently, I think all my materia (that I have equipped) are all Master level. Should I switch out my materia and level some of the others up so I can use them in fusions later? Or is it not necessary to level them up before using fusions?
But... that requires looking up the enemies ahead of time. :< (Though, that'll be easier when I get the guidebook, I suspect. XD)

The guidebook has a huge ass unfold fusion guide that will still make your eyes go @_@ but it's much more legible than the ASCII stuff on like gamefaqs. And yeah, you should master your materia before you use it for fusions so if you have a Cure materia that's Mastered, switch it out for a Lv. 1. Cure and let that one level and rinse, repeat. Obviously, switch in your good materia if you're going into a boss fight or something.
Pfft. I just play the missions and if I get owned by an electrical bird, I switch my gear, then go back in. =P

.....oh god I hate the fold-outs. I hate taking them out of the guidebook because I like to keep them as pristine as possible, but I suppose I must. So, do I just go run through a bunch of repeat missions to level the materia up? Or should I use them on regular missions, but only good ones back in if I'm going up against a difficult boss?
I-- I have yet to even bother to look up which type is weak to which. I know fire is ALWAYS weak to water/ice, so I've got that one down, but other than that... yeah, I pretty much do my "spam myself with cure and then beat it through sheer level grinding awesome" thing.

And Cissinei isn't new. She's the main character of Before Crisis, the mobile phone game that Square released about the Turks. Of course there's absolutely no explanation of where the heck she is in the actually FF7 canon, though I suspect if there's a remake, she'll get retconned into the game.

I read some of the translations of BC, I've seen a fair amount of art for it, but I never knew her name or... well, pretty much any of the other characters besides Rod. XDDD

Well, you also have to remember, I can blog about a game after playing 20 minutes of it and come up with a surprising amount of words to say about it. XD And, oh, you started FFCC:EoT? How is it? (Seriously, what's with Square putting out all these awesome games?)
I just-- I really need to get some of these finished before 358/2 comes out and before DQIX comes out, because I know I'll get sucked into both of those. (Though, I might wait and see if an undubbed version of the KH one comes out, because I imagine it will.)
I've been reluctant to play Dissidia, because it says I need to update the firmware to 5.55 and I think I remember seeing that that one couldn't be changed yet? I'm trying to wait until I finish playing CC to see which way I want to go--I'm leaning towards just doing it because, hell, I don't really have that many PSP games I want to play. *still torn*

And I can understand wanting to get stuff finished, yeah. It is an urge that drives me also... there's too much awesome! *flail* (And yet, here I am trolling impatiently to learn about the upcoming awesome. I can see why there's a theory that the age of computers/information is basically improving the ability to multitask but destroying any hope of concentration.)
You don't need 5.55, otherwise *I* wouldn't be able to play it. 5.55 only came out the other month, way after Dissidia. I don't think there are even any games in English yet with that problem-- the only one I've wanted to play and run into a wall over was Tales of VS. orz

I swear it was 5.55 that came with the Dissidia disc, since Dissidia only JUST came out in English. A friend pre-ordered it for me, so I got it shipped out as soon as it was available, so it makes sense that the English version would require it, I think?
*still debating, but probably going to do it* orz
