Again inspired by Neva...

First, Neva set herself a limit of, "since Sandoz said 'mutant powers' instead of 'magical or superhuman powers,' I'm drawing my list specifically from the X-Men universe." and I'm not sure if that rules out magic. Both Magik and The Scarlet Witch have something of a link between their "mutant powers" and their magic.

neva, fannish five, magic, captain jack harkness, a wrinkle in time, x-characters

But bad things happen to Marvel healers! I really like your list, though - reality warping is a dangerous but creative power.

I know, I know! If I had a nickle for every time I've seen someone crucify Wolverine literally I'd be a richer woman. Plus, the first person I saw in the books with an ability to heal others wasn't even a mutant. It was Madelyne Pryor given the power by Loki for a scheme of his. Unfortunately I was ten years old at the time, and I've never been able to shake how cool I thought it was then. That's why the OFC that I've been designing and redesigning ever since then is a mutant psi who's primarily a healer, with a fewer other weaker abilities.

I really like your list, though...

Thanks!

...reality warping is a dangerous but creative power. That last slot is the one I took the longest time filling. The first four are all ones I know I've wanted since I was a kid. I probably even wanted all of them before I ever read an X-book. It's just there is an X-character that I know for each one was "The First One" I saw with that ability, and thought, "Oh cool! They can do it!!" If your curious ( ... )

I like your list!

For the record, when I said "mutant powers as opposed to magical powers," I was not claiming that there had to be a clear division between the two - because of Illyana and Wanda, as you said. But if Sandoz had said "magical or superhuman powers," I would assume that she meant I could choose any power that had been described as magical or superhuman in any story, ever, instead of limiting myself to one source. I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself well.

There are a variety of reasons that Neva and I are friends including, but definitely not limited to -- our love of A Wrinkle in Time, "Captain Jack Harkness," and Marvel mutants. :D

Awwww! I'm glad that we're friends, too - for all of those reasons and more!

Don't worry about it. I had fun thinking about what I liked about Wanda besides her magic. Plus, I'm not sure I'd really want magic in the Marvel Universe. I mean in the 15 years I read it they couldn't be consistent about how magic worked, and they treated my favorite magic users horribly. Illyana was stripped of her powers and killed by the Legacy Virus. Wanda had her children, her husband, and her sanity stripped away from her. Not exactly big selling points for magic, or for Marvel for that matter. I mean I did stop reading the books years ago.

I'm glad that we're friends, too - for all of those reasons and more!

Thanks! :)
