Went to Maine, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick October 4 to 14th, and it was beautiful. Saw wild beasts of the maritimes: harbor porpoises, seals, sea birds, porcupines, a turkey, a black bear, and whales. Otoh, the wild turkey that ran across our path while we were walking in Bar Harbor was very alive and gave some 6 year old a thrill. The boy, who had been running ahead, pretending he was Spiderman, when the turkey streaked out the woods in front of him to cross the street. The kid stopped dead in amazement, then he was all like, "MomMomMomdidyaseeMOMMOMOMDIDYOUSEE IT????"

I was totally thrilled by the whale, but I am a land lubber, so easily impressed. The captain of the boat said they were humpbacks, which jibes with nature program images of humpbacks, so I assume they were in fact humpbacks. They were very lumpy in the face, with parallel furrows running front-to-back.
