I ran the coolest errand today

So this morning, I drove into Edmonton to drop of some paperwork that will soon allow me to do some pretty neat-o things. I'll be getting a special driver's licence that allows me to operate historical vehicles within the city of Edmonton. What does that mean?

So who is qualified to drive cool old antiques? Gotta prove you know how to operate old-timey vehicles that lack seatbelts?

The issue I think is mainly the way you drive the machines. These ones were made before standardization, so they're, well, not "standards", but neither are they automatics. George says a few of them use what's called the "planetary system." They're quite tricky to drive, some of them. Some of them also can't get up to modern speed limits, so I think that you have to be aware of the vehicles limitations as well so you can drive safely on the road.

Also, yeah, no seatbelts. ;) At the park, our speed limit is 15km/h... also to protect artifacts in the houses against dust, because if you go much faster than that, you throw up a LOT of dust. (For comparison, driving through a school zone is 30km/h in Canada|).

Congrats! That sounds freakin' amazing, to tell you the truth.

I didn't know you needed a special license to drive those vehicles, though once you think of it makes sense... they were simple machines, but rather different from what we have these days.

And yeah, that is going to sounds pretty sweet on your CV, if only for the bragging rights. :3

I'm not sure about the laws in other regions, but apparently my city is unique in the province in that it requires a special licence. :P Oh, well, it's a special piece of paper/plastic that I can put on my CV! :)
