Back safely from three different countries in two weeks (AKA I love Europe)

Last night I returned from nearly two weeks "abroad". My students have a vacation, so I do as well. More information (and photographs) will follow.

Essentially, my friend Jenny and I went to Bruges (that's in Belgium!), one of my favourite towns in Europe. Absolutely gorgeous. We also watched the amazing film In Bruges in Bruges.

We then went on to ( Read more... )

I know, right? Oh man, life is so hard when so many universities want me to attend their prestigious programs... FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS.

What about you? Are you still applying for my English teaching program in France? :DD

No kidding, right? Where all were you accepted?

Well, seeing as how the deadline was March 1st, it's more a question of "did I apply" - and yes, I have. :) They let me know that they've got all my documents, so now it's just a matter of waiting to see if they want me or not. Fingers crossed!

Yaaay! :D I'm sure that you'll be accepted! And if you come to Rouen, I'll definitely give you contacts and places to go and such. :3 What were your top three choices to go to?

I've been accepted into Carleton, Western, and U of A. I'm probably going to go to one of first two, because they both have public history programs.

I'm leaning towards Carleton (it's in Ottawa, and I've been offered more money to go there), but I'm really torn... I proposed two different thesis topics for both, and I kind of like the one for Western better... It's a history of medicine one, and the prof I'd be working with at Western is in charge of the medical artifact collection at the university museum. But do I really want to live in London, Ontario? For less money...? It depends how much travelling I want to do, I suppose... Gah! Very torn...

As bleak as it is, I love that film. I adore Bruges, and it shoots the city in such loving passing detail <3

I completely agree! <3

I saw it for the first time in theatres when I was studying in France in Lille, right near the border with Belgium, only a few weeks after I visited the city for the first time. As a side note, I saw the film in its original English version, but the French subtitles were completely censored and didn't include a single swearword... and so all of the French people in the room were completely confused as to why myself and another anglophone friend of mine would burst into laughter every so often. Including so many curses becomes a sort of running gag throughout the entire film, so the French were really missing out in that case.
