Back safely from three different countries in two weeks (AKA I love Europe)

Last night I returned from nearly two weeks "abroad". My students have a vacation, so I do as well. More information (and photographs) will follow.

Essentially, my friend Jenny and I went to Bruges (that's in Belgium!), one of my favourite towns in Europe. Absolutely gorgeous. We also watched the amazing film In Bruges in Bruges.

We then went on to Amsterdam (apparently a popular choice - almost everyone in our hostel in Bruges was heading there next) for four days. It was rainy, and the museums were expensive and at times depressing (the Anne Frank House will do that to you), but it's still a must-see! Jenny, who is originally from South Africa, got the chance to see just how compatible her Afrikaans was with modern Dutch. (Answer: pretty compatible!)

Then, we flew to England, where I spent a night at her parent's house enjoying home-cooked food. They live in Colchester, which is famous for being the oldest recorded town in England as well as the birthplace of Boadicea, possibly one of the most badass women to have ever lived.

I left Jenny to enjoy being home and went to meet three other friends in London: two Germans (Anne and Jessica) and an Englishman (Jonathan), all assistants like me in Rouen. We stayed in what was possibly the worst hostel I've ever been to, and I was in a Tube station which had to be evacuated due to a suspiciously bomb-like package, but other than that I had a great time in London itself! Again, more details and images to follow at some unspecified time.

In the meanwhile, why don't you enjoy In Bruges?
