Busy busy busy... No word back yet from any of the universities I've applied to, but seeing as I sent in my applications a month or so early and the real deadlines were, like, last week, I'm not concerned. Yet. Good luck with your grad school applications! I hope you get in!

Oh, English. :) I grow increasingly fond of this language as I grow older.

Yay, maple! (Seriously, why do people seem to expect us to have some kind of national food or something? I think and think and the closest things I can come up with for "Canadian" foods are poutine, perogies, and maple syrup. XD Oh, and nanaimo bars. And possibly buttertarts.)

I read a really fabulous book about English called Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue by John McWhorter that, among other things, clearly explains where that funny little "do" comes from. *spoiler alert* It's a Celtic leftover!

Also, I am hideously, hideously jealous of your exciting and tres chic life in France, and hope you get into ALL THE UNIVERSITIES. :D

Ooh, that sounds like a book I'm definitely going to have to pick up! My favourite at the moment is "The mother tongue: English and how it got that way" by Bill Bryson. I've also been loving "The Discovery of France" by Graham Robb, which is about French dialects and culture in the region outside of Paris... as well as the geographical and cultural battles it took to get them to be French (and if they succeeded or not).
