Why hallo thar, long time no update!
Busy busy busy... No word back yet from any of the universities I've applied to, but seeing as I sent in my applications a month or so early and the real deadlines were, like, last week, I'm not concerned. Yet. I've also learned that two of my friends have also applied for programs at Western, which is on the top of my list, and wouldn't that be grand if we all got in? :D
I'm feeling pretty good today. The one class of sulky teenagers that normally is impossible to engage was, well, actually almost paying attention today! We played "20 Questions" so they could practice forming questions in English, which is very hard, btw. Very rarely is it a simple inversion like in French ("I am" becomes "Am I") - more often it involves crazy things like "did", "does", and "do". "Did you see that giant dinosaur?" "I know! Does it have a licence to drive that semi-truck?"
I also made three powerpoint presentations for tomorrow, all of which involving Canada in some way. I'm very proud of them and I hope that they're entertaining and educational!
This past Friday, I had a bunch of people over chez moi for a Lord of the Rings movie night, which involved far too much food and was a tremendous success. Cider and wine was drunk, goats cheese pizza sampled... I successfully made a maple pie, too! (My friends, mostly from the British Isles, requested I make something "Canadian". Hey, at least a third of the proportion of the ingredients was maple syrup, so that's as Canadian as it gets, right?)
On Tuesday, I'm going to be going to an open house displaying art from the students at my school. I've been roped into going - they've plied me with free food and drink afterwards, so how could I say no? Twist my arm, why don't you. The next day, I'm going to a smaller town to have a roast dinner with some other assistants, hosted by one of them. On Saturday, I shall be going to Amiens with them too. And we just finished booking trains and hostels for a three day trip to Belgium on the weekend before Valentine's Day. Very exciting! More to come on that.
