Japanese straightening & hair dye

Jun 04, 2008 10:10

Last summer I got my hair Japanese straightened and I loved it. But now the top and the underneath roots are waving up again. While it's little enough to touch up with a straight iron, my hair doesn't hold it. Which is why I got it done in the first place.

I have been dying my hair red for 10 years and decided that before I got it straightened ( Read more... )

I have always wanted to get the straightening done, as I am doomed with poofy hair. Yours looks great! I would try to stick it out with your original goal, getting back to your natural hair color. Since the color now is closer to your real color, I'd say go get it straightened, and try to let it grow in natural after that. Just my thoughts. I'm sure either way, you will look fabulous!

I lose pacience while growing it out. I wind up giving in and dying it again. But since I paid all that money to get the color "fixed" I feel all the more obligated to let it finish growing out.

Thanks for the input!

Either get it straightened, braid it, or wear a silk scarf in your hair while there. I made the mistake of dying my hair before I went to Mexico last month and my hair faded soooo much in the sun that there was no point in me dying it.

I didn't even think of sun fading!

Thanks.

I think the best way to get it back to natural is just to let it grow out. I tried for two years to dye it back to my natural color, but I never actually succeeded until I just stopped dying and waited and kept chopping it off.

I was afraid of that.

Thanks for the advice.

It did take a while, but it turns out, my hair looks much better now, so it was worth it.

Wow I'm no help whatsoever. I've never heard of Japanese straightening, it sounds awesome though, I may have to look that up. Do most salons do it?

Also the main reason I wanted to comment was I am thoroughly enjoying your Spirited Away icon =) Thats so effing cute!

A lot of Asian salons do it and it is expanding to other salons. It is cheaper in a more "Asian populated" area. Example in Queens I can pay $150 but on Long Island about twice that.

Some people have a great experience getting their hair straighted and some have horrendous experiences. So it's best to do you research first.

I had this great site when I was first looking into it and now I cannot remember what it was. But here's a start: Http://www.thermalreconditioning.com/qanda.html

I am happy to find another Spirited Away Fan!

What did you wash your hair with? It makes all the difference. I bought this yellow tub of conditioner from the salon which was imported from Japan. It worked great but smelled lousey.

You always have to get your hair trimmed up after straightening since it kills your ends.

Also, do you know what brand of chemicals they used? I am terrible with names but the red bottle kind is the best.

Oh dear, when I was in vacation in Vietnam, I got it done so I have no idea what brand of chemicals. Also, I'm very conscious about good smelling hair products, so I don't think that the conditioner you're talking about will be for me. I did get my hair cut yesterday and now I have Phyto products for dry hair which is working well for me so far...
