Does benzoyl peroxide make acne scars worse??

May 18, 2008 09:36

Ok, ok.. so I just woke up this morning to see that a bunch of acne on my forehead (between my eyebrows) cleared up overnight. One of them had dried out and formed a scab...while the rest of them, about 4 of them, left FREAKING red marks as a parting gift! They weren't even big whiteheads...they were small, under the skin, and not inflamed at all. ( Read more... )

those don't sound like acne scars. it just sounds like the acne is still healing. yeah, the pimple is gone, but the skin around it still has to heal up. give it a few more days, and your skin should calm down. :)

Thanks for reassuring me :) I've heard a lot of people on acne.org say they've had red marks for 6 months-1 yr, but then, their acne's probably a lot worse than mine.

that sounds perfectly normal for the healing of pimples and acne. :)

Really? Usually I only get red marks when I used to pick at em...otherwise the zits stay there for so long I don't even notice when they go away :/
How long does it take for them to go away, generally? I don't think I could wait it out for more than, like, a week, lol.

You're welcome :)
Don't worry too much about it, it will fade. Meanwhile, use a coverstick.

I usually don't hate, but I hate the Neutrogena cleanser/mask that contains benzoyl peroxide. It breaks out my skin horribly. Something they put in it causes my skin to breakout terribly.

However, benzoyl peroxide gel is fine. No matter which you use, either bp or salicylic gel, the skin where the pimple was will always turn pink or dark pink or brown once it heals. It takes some time for it to go away.

i always put mederma on my post-zit marks, it makes them fade 1000x faster than they normally would
