shopping and shirts

I'm hoping to go summer-shopping tomorrow or Friday and I really want to make this a productive trip - i.e., avoid changing room meltdowns and manage to buy flattering clothing that fits. So questions on sizing and flattering and so on and so forth.

Going by a size chart is not a good idea. The best way to know what size you are and what size you should be wearing is to try stuff on. Different cuts of clothes can have sizes all over the chart and charts are not standardized to be accurate for every body type. Look for stuff that is comfortable and not tight. You want to look good, not miserable.

True to that! I just bought two pairs of the exact same shorts in the same size from Old Navy, one in black and one in white, and when I tried them on at home the black were wayyy smaller than the white ones. When you held them up next to each other the black ones were a good two inches smaller all around. I went back and exchanged them for another pair- same shorts, same color, same size, and they fit fine.

Seriously don't go by those sizing charts. For both American Eagle and Aeropostale I actually wear two sizes smaller then what the charts tell me to! I'm 5'3" also, but I'm like 135 pounds... and I wear an 8 at the absolute highest. Usually a 5 or 6. My guess is you should probably wear a 3 or 4.
Also, for stores like those two, the clothing is basically designed for girls who haven't developed womanly curves yet and still have stick straight figures, so it probably throws everything a little out of whack for a lot of us

hmm, i'm like the same size as you (5'3", 110lbs) and i wear a size 2 usually, so... i think the charts are probably wrong, lol.

You have to get a measuring tape to get a rough estimate of the measurements. Determining size by weight won't be helpful because a person's weight distributes differently.
