When your body goes through a sudden drop in protein, it reacts by conserving everything it can - including from your hair. Nuts + multivitamin + time are your friends.

I was vegan for 3 years (had to begin eating fish for health reasons) and nuts + multivitamins are what I swore by.

This won't help much, but:

I'm a strict vegetarian, and I have ridiculous amounts of hair loss lately, too. It may be lack of protein in your diet. Try to incorporate more green leafy veggies into your diet, and peanut butter, if you like it. Also, a multivitamin couldn't hurt.

I eat about 3 tablespoons of peanut butter a day, and had the same major hair loss issues during the first year I became vegetarian. I used to only eat peanut butter a few times a week. I eat it daily after I thought about trying it, and have quit losing hair excessively :) My hair's naturally always grown very fast (like an inch or more a month), but it did thin out a lot when I first became vegetarian when I was 15/16

Iron, B12, or Protein could be the culprits.

When I was a "vegetarian" (I use the term loosely, because in my case it was an excuse to be anorexic), my hair fell out like crazy. I doubt if it'll ever be the same. It used to be so thick with perfect gorgeous soft curls, now the curls look shitty, it's thinner, and it falls out if you so much as breathe on it. It's shinier and less dull now than when I was anorexic, but it's only slightly better. The only thing that helped it of course, in my case, was not being anorexic anymore, but it's never made a full recovery and that was years ago.

The only good thing that came out of it is, I take way better care of my hair now than back when I took it for granted, so it's much healthier now; I don't put product in it or get split ends or anything like that.
