pre-natals are supposed to, threa re aformulations for hair skin and nails available, though they might have a lot of biotin in them. Biotin is a B vitamin, I don't know that a b-complex would help you there, and with the hypothyroid you should check with a doctor. Silacates are supposed to help, hosetail (capsules), or eating onions and garlic. Generally good nutrition is the best though, you need extra protein and nutrients so that your body can devote them to hair, which is a low priority in the grand scheme of things.

silacates? are they found in stores under that name or is there a specific formulation?
my thyroid has been checked, that's why i wrote it was balanced because i didnt want ppl telling me to get it checked instead of answering my real question. but you answers above and beyond so thank you! =)
yeah and the protein is an issue for me...

Probably you will have to look for horsetail (sorry about the type-os above). As to other silicates, I don't know that there is a supplement listed as such, but if you go wander the aisles of a health food store it might be on a label that you can find.

The prenatals I take have a little biotin in them but they do work - whether it's from the biotin or not, I couldn't tell you, though.

I break out from biotin too. :(
You could try getting biotin naturally from what you eat. Or other vitamins in food. Almonds really help my hair.

I know lots of peopel who have had success with pre natals. As caliginous pointed out, Biotin is a b-vitamin, so a b complex might yield the same bad results. I get b12 shots from my doctor occasionally, and i think ithelps with hair growth (I do definately know that it gives me some extra energy!). Silicates are also supposed to be good. You should check with your doctor though, and make sure that there isn't something more serious going on (my hair always start to get a bit thin when I have lupus problems)

there have been a couple of factors that probably caused my hair to fall out which i mentioned in my post. but they have been dealt with and im just trying to fix what happened and prevent it from happening again. im going to look into those silicates tho. thank you.

i always mention checking with doctors b/c I'm not aware of all interactions (for example, there are certain supplements that I am supposed to avoid - especially echincea - due to my health problems). Also, if your hair is falling out, it could be due to other problems that you aren't aware of.

Do you take a daily multivitamin? It could just be general deficiency that's affecting your hair.
