Get a tub of powder. The more powder, the better.

it lifted so far on the first take, i can't imagine you'd need more than another session to get it where it needs to be.
my hair is almost jet black. when i bleached the whole thing blonde it took three 40 minute sessions over the course of 2 days with 40 volume developer and though it was fried, it didn't break off. bleaching chunks of it to do fun colors like lilac (in my case purple) took significantly less time. i don't think the people at Sally's necessarily steered you wrong, but i do think that bleaching at that level is a serious commitment. based on my personal experience, another round of bleach should probably be sufficient to lift it the rest of the way. you might wrap the ends in foil this time though-heat helps the bleach penetrate better and the foil helps keep heat in. what kind of toner were you planning on using?

do NOT use 40vol again :-( that's way too harsh!!

you should deep condition for a few days and then try to bleach again with 20-30vol

I agree with this. 40 vol is HARSH. 3-4 20-30 vol sessions would have been better, with deep conditioning breaks in between.

40 vol is harsh, but it really did a good job of lifting. Use 20-30 vol next time. Do not use 40 vol again.

It needs to look like the inside of a banana, yes, and then you can use a blue toner, but I've found that blue/purple shampoo is also good for keeping blonde hair looking good.

Deep conditioning is the way to go.

Tbh, I think 40 vol should be left for professionals to do, but you already did it. The best thing you can do is just try to keep the damage to a minimum.
