I have recently come to the realization that I've neglected my skin a bit these past few years, as in skipping moisturizing sometimes and only ever using whatever cheap product I could find, and would like to change that ( Read more... )

I don't have anything in the way of recommendations for skin cleansing, because I don't have a consistent array of products that I use, but I would not recommend Clinique for skin cleansing. My skin can tolerate a LOT of stuff, but Clinique was relatively harsh - I tried the Acne Solutions 3 step system and the normal 3 step system. Neither were effective for me. They just stripped my skin (and I only wash my face once a day...). The Clinique moisture surge gel is decent, though. Very moisturising for those days when your skin is extra dry.

In terms of moisturisers, I've always liked the Neutrogena oil-free moisture. They have one for combo skin and one for sensitive skin and an SPF version. I have very oily skin with dry patches and I find this moisturises well, is light, and doesn't make me greasy.

I've had really wonderful experiences with the Clinique 3-step system. I do prefer the bar soap cleanser to the liquid cleanser, though.

I want to add that I also did not like Clinique. At. All. I don't know what it is with their protects but it really dries out my skin. Even whatever is suppose to be 'moisturizing' (i.e. Moisture Surge) is way overpriced and ineffective. (And kind of to the side, but my friends and I perceive Clinique as a brand targeted more for women aged 30+/40+)

For drugstore moisturizer I recommend Olay's Complete (original formula). Otherwise I use Vichy's Aquila Thermal 24 hour moisturizer.

I know it's bad but I've had days when I come home just feeling right dead, so I go to bed without removing my makeup. I've not seen ANY noticeable dryness or increase in pimples or irritation or anything from my neglect at taking good care of my skin. I believe it's due to a good moisturizer >.<

Also, I do a lot DIY stuff (aspirin mask, honey mask, yogurt mask). That stuff is more precious to me than expensive products that have the same effect but heaps more expensive.

Philosophy purity made simple has worked wonders for my friend who has horrible acne, and for me, though I don't have any kind of complications. I use the philosophy hope in a jar moisturizer and that is also amazing, and it is supposedly for all skin types.

If you have sensitive skin, I really anti-recommend Purity Made Simple. I got a huge rash from it, and a classmate's face turned red.

I use CeraVe products, and I love them. I use the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, and CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion PM. The lotion has niacinamide, which can help fade dark marks. These would probably be better for combo skin than my dry skin, because my skin still feels dry after the lotion. They also have a foaming cleanser that might work for you.

I sometimes use Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion (a toner) - it's the only one from Clinique without alcohol. I use it maybe 2-3x a week to exfoliate.
