I don't recommend the Kiss kit, when I tried it a couple years back the products in it were very low quality and wouldn't apply evenly. If you really want to do your own go to Sally's and buy a kit or individual product. The quality of products is very important.

A few years ago, my mom went and got a kit at Sally's so we could do our own nails because we weren't finding time to go get them done. It's honestly not as daunting as it looks. I have minimal cosmetology experience in makeup and hair, but not nails, and my mom has zero, and we did our own nails for about a year. She works in a steel mill and I work in the automotive industry, and they held up just as well as if we'd gone and gotten them done professionally.

I was actually looking at the Kiss acrylic kit today. The only thing that stopped me from getting it was I noticed that it was just the tips instead of a demi or full nail. I don't think you've have a problem with application, but I'd be concerned about the tips breaking off straight away.
