Beautiful people of beauty101, a question for you:

My hair is, naturally, dark brown with a faint coppery sheen. I have dyed it, on and off, for the past several years; mostly reddish shades. About a month and a half ago, I made the decision to get blonde highlights. Now, I hate them. I spoke with a friend (who has similar coloring and highlights), who told ( Read more... )

I anticipate that it will show through, but as long as the blonde is mostly broken up, I'm fine with that.

for me it always worked well.
except for the fact that depending on how damaged your hair is the color fades pretty fast in the places where the hightlights used to be

For the first time in my life, my hair is damaged. D: It isn't horrible; it's just hard to comb, after I get out of the shower. Otherwise, it's fine. How long did you wait, between bleaching/highlights and dyeing it darker?

not really sure.
i think two months or something?

one time after my hairdresser made the mistake of leaving the bleach on for too long my hair was so damaged that i just had to cut most of it off.
it was to the middle of my back & i cut it to chin-length cause there was nothing i could do to save it.
it was all fried & broken.
another time i thought it'd be cool to go from blonde to a dark red.
it wasn't cool.
it turned bright orange after a while...
the other times it was just fine.

I have naturally black hair. Got brownish highlights, they eventually faded to bleach blonde. So I used a very, very dark brown box dye to dye over the blonde bits because I wanted to return back to my natural hair colour (or something close). It covered them up, but it just didn't look "right"... there were some bits that were still lighter brown. I ended up going to the salon and they dyed it again for me, and NOW it looks normal.

I forgot to mention that the lighter bits became lighter due to fading (and it was pretty quick fading). Apparently you need to dye your hair a few times to really get rid of the highlights, at least that's what the hairdresser told me.

Ooh. :( I may just need to return to the salon, then.
