Music File Organization

I'm trying to find what way to best organize around 7,000 mp3s. I've tried allowing Itunes to, but that program completely infuriates me and I don't particularly find 400 artist folders organized in a way that makes it very accessible. Itunes itself allows me to sort by artist, genre, etc. so why would I also want my music broken down into a ( Read more... )

I still use MusicBrainz.org, but my files are just sorted into folders by artist. All I go for is uniformity in the tagging style (in fact I like that MusicBrainz strips files of their genre labels, precisely because people are so ridiculous about what they will stick in there).

Trying to organize more than, say, 1000 files into genres sounds like way more trouble than it would actually be worth, to me. Since iTunes and Winamp both have such robust media library features these days, the actual file structure is something of an afterthought for me.
