Post-Hurricane Sandy - Personal Effect

Nov 03, 2012 01:08

Not much happened here when Sandy blew into town. Power outages amid heavy rain and high winds. I'm sure there was some property damage. The building next to me had one of it's balconies pull loose and droop down two floors directly above the entrance ( Read more... )

Invent new routines?

Meh I dunno. Just an arbitrary suggestion.

Thank you. I'm trying to do that. I am taking a singing course in Irish and Scottish traditional music, which gets me out of the house and doing something I love. I'm going to work my way through a basic cooking book and learn techniques I don't know or better ways to do what I do. I bought a new car and the freedom it brings.

Everything takes energy. I thought I was regaining mine and my equilibrium after I came home from NJ. Instead I got sick, which made singing awful and I didn't feel well enough to try new kitchen stuff. It all had to wait again.

It's a pity party, I know. My cold is going away. The Jason part of my life isn't going to go away. It's just where it is at the moment.

Get a new hobby or two?

It helped me after George died.

I have my jewelry-making hobby which I enjoy. My creativity was stifled before I went to NJ, trying to deal with Jason's life, and when I came back I got sick just as I applied to be a vendor at a show. As a result I have no new pieces. I am feeling better now. After the show, I will pick it up again.

A self-taught cooking course and a singing class are also on the agenda, but were sidelined for the same reason.

These last few weeks have just sucked, mostly.

Do you have a grief group?

No, and I am realizing I need one. Only one of my gay friends has gone through this and that person is too bitter generally to be really helpful.

When I visited the funeral to handle arrangements, they suggested a grief group. I'm going to find that information and go there.
