You really should wear the patch. The idea is to keep everything out of the eye, keep the cornea wet and let it heal. Not wearing it can lead to additional damage or infection. The latter can lead to permanent blindness. Now is not the time to be a contrary cub.

She told me the patch can be helpful but not essential; the medicine she has prescribed forms a coating over the eye which helps to seal the scratch and deter infections.
