i) On Saturday I was surprised to see the local Super Pet, and apparently the whole chain, is being bought out the PetsMart. It's sad because I think the Super pet chains had much more creativity, a wider range of animals, bigger size, etc. than the other chain ( Read more... )

His back looks kind of arched and stiff, but he also is breathing funny which is what concerns me. It could be just age, I'm not sure. He's exactly 2 years old, and I do remember having hamsters that lived for 3 years.

I use aspen shavings (the cedar ones are said to cause them problems). He was born in July 2005 so he's 2 years old. Hamsters normally live to be 2.5 to 3 years, so he is getting on I guess.

It seems the vet visit is looming on the horizon. Sorry. I hope it's nothing serious.

I've been reading a bit on hamster vet care and there's many conditions they can get, partly because hamstes are very inbred. For most of them there's little a vet can do except put the animal down.
