update: august weekend

Dave and I spent the Civic Holiday weekend in peterborough. The weather was perfect, the drive uneventful except for having to take the toll highway to avoid massive backups on the 403-QEW, and the visit with my family went well.

Other highlights included meeting up with hockeyslave and his friend Steve, going and seeing my old neighbourhood and my ( Read more... )

What I found weird, when I went back to Dartmouth around 1983, having not been there in about 8 years, was how the great big wall that surrounded the houses where my friends live was really only about three feet tall. Ah, perspective...

You mean the wall that I sawed down from 6 feet to three feet in 1982?

Ah - that would explain a lot. My, what an energetic, nay, Herculean 9 year old you were!

Of course, much like Dusty Springfield (colour me fag), I am homesick for a home I never had.

It WAS interesting to see how much had changed in my old stomping grounds in Ottawa when I was down there in March. And, then, what HADN'T. :)

I think I feel that more when I'm experiencing something knew, like when I'm travelling, but the state of mind is deliberate. When I'm on familiar turf I tend to get distracted by ridiculous necessities. Maybe it's a personal thing.

Hmmm...what do you mean by "ridiculous necessities"?

I guess in my case it's a matter of being where I feel very familiar and I know where everything is, and so i'm not distracted by unfamiliarity.

What I mean is, I'm more prone to anxiety when at home or involved in routine activities. Anxiety focuses on significant problems (necessities), but in a ridiculous and unconstructive way.

Hey!

I was searching for links from TASS folks and came across your journal.

Was in Ptbo for the long weekend too for my 20th high school reunion - TAS grads of 84 to 88.

Hi...I went to TASS from 1988-1992, and then up the street to Trent U. So I may have been in Grade 9 when you were in grade 13. Hmmm. I did well in HS academically but I didn't like it socially at all.

I didn't even know people had HS reunions anymore, and it's odd because Dave and I were talking about that when we were up in Peterborough. How do you find out about things like that? I don't even know the email of anyone I went to school with...
