update: august weekend

Dave and I spent the Civic Holiday weekend in peterborough. The weather was perfect, the drive uneventful except for having to take the toll highway to avoid massive backups on the 403-QEW, and the visit with my family went well.

Other highlights included meeting up with hockeyslave and his friend Steve, going and seeing my old neighbourhood and my grandparents farm, and helping a deperately lost Torontonian family get on the right road up to cottage country.

The only real low point was the rather bland Chineese food we had on saturday (it's generally hard to get good oriental food, or in fact anything that isn't pizza or standard roadhouse fare, up there). To make up for that we had a good spicy Indian meal when we got back to Hamilton.

Just a thought: Does anyone other than me notice how, when in a familiar spot like your childhood hometown, that everything seems a bit more real and "in the moment"?
