I don't know about you people, but I know what I'm thankful for this year (aside, of course, from the usual "friends, family, health" blahzeeblah). I'm thankful for the relatively new MSNBC news anchor Rachel Maddow.

4. This is actually the most important point for me, personally. Some ado has been made (both good and bad) about Maddow's outness. What I have not seen anyone talking about (except, on one or two occasions, Maddow herself) is Maddow's, for lack of a less old-school term, butchness. Granted, she gets femmied up a little on her tv show to make her more "palatable" to mainstream audiences (a point that annoys me, but nothing more). One could make the counter-argument that the men on news tv wear just as much make-up, the only difference is that Maddow's lipstick is a few shades pinker. Off-air, Maddow continues to dress in a way that could be described (as it has by Maddow herself) as looking like "a big dyke." Observe:

Her "concerned face #1" is much better than the guy two people down to her right making "constipated face #2" get it! Number 2!

Seriously though it was so heartwarming to watch her on Conan and hear two really intelligent people have a conversation. I feel totally horrible I didn't know who she was up into this point, but then I feel a little better when I realize the only news anchors I can name are fictional duck ones. Babwa Wawa was quite a woman.

Hah, "constipated guy" would be Pat Buchanan (and I think that looking constipated is just a way of life, for him). Also, don't worry, I'm sure you can name one or two fictional muppet reporters too (such as Kermit in his "roving reporter" hat, and Guy Smiley).

It occurs to me that I spent all this time writing this post, but didn't bother to actually say when/where a person can actually catch the Rachel Maddow Show. Here is info:
- The Rachel Maddow Show (tv) airs Monday through Friday on MSNBC at 9pm Eastern (or 6pm Pacific), and then re-airs at 11pm Eastern (8pm Pacific).
- The Rachel Maddow Show (radio) airs on Air America (can be livestreamed at http://airamerica.com/listen ) Monday through Friday, 6-8pm Eastern (or 3-5pm Pacific), and Sundays at 2pm Eastern (11am Pacific).
