Running its course.

I admit that I have called in sick on days that I was in fact feeling 100% physically healthy. In most of those cases, however, I have declared those days to be "mental health days," which I consider something of a necessity since I have still not managed to secure professional help1. The small percentage of sick days that have fallen into the ( Read more... )

I too am sick, and am supposed to work tonight at midnight. I'm not sure right now if I'll make that or not. I was thinking about the ramifications of calling in sick last night before going to bed, and felt the same guilt as you feel now. It's just one of those things about being an American I think. We're considered one of the most productive people in the world, and clearly working when we shouldn't is one of the reasons we have this distinction.

Here's the funny thing, I think I've got at least 200+ hours of sick time available to me at work, yet it pains me use any of them, even for legit reasons. Why do they give you so many unless they want you to use them if you need them? At this point, I could only use them if I got catastrophically ill.

Take it, you've earned it I'm sure, and get better, don't work around the house, or attempt to do other things, just get better, that's what those days are for.

AHA! I was trying to track down who this damn cold came from! Now I'm guessing the wedding at the yacht club.

As an artist, and pretty diligent one, you're contributing to society when you take a road trip, drink tea, eat ice cream, watch birds in a park or just breathe. And by the same token, when you take a sick day when you're actually feeling tip top, your employer's generosity extends to the rest of us, which is good for his/her well-being as well as ours.

Shopping for a therapist: they're supposed to help you, not the other way around, right? Or at least a two-way street. I guess I'd be pestering friends with experience for recommendations.

I hope the cold passes quickly...

Dr. Lynch is expensive, but very very good. I don't know about Dr. Anders, but my guess is that she is also good as well. When I first went to see Dr. Lynch, I had lost all hope in psychiatrists and medication. Almost 2 years later I am in the best shape emotionally that I've ever been in my entire life.
