It's been a while since I have posted anything..   I am going to start journalling my experience as a diabetic.  I hope this will help me vent my frustrations and be informative to the non diabetic community.

I went to work the other day feeling like crap... like most diabetics we tend to say we can "feel" when our sugars are out of control.   Well ( Read more... )

Good to hear from you...
The frustrating thing is.. I hate to admit this... I am feeling really pissy most of the time and have Z-E-R-0 patience.

Sugars going up n down make you feel like someone has just beaten the shit outta you.

My pancreas has stopped insulin production which is common to type 1 diabetes.
Insulin resistance which is common to type 2 diabetes is taking its toll. The body requires copius amounts of insulin because of the insulin resisitance and weight gain is to follow.

Current situation... Diabetes is bending me over!

NOt sure.. THey have recently come out with a new type called "one and a half" there is a clinical name for it but I am not sure what it is.

All I know is I feel real sluggish and bitchy when my sugars are high... just ask my partner. I don't like drama but I sure can be dramatic when my sugars are high.

I have Type 2 diabetes so I empathise with your sugars going up and down. Exercise is really making a difference for me. I've been walking more and my sugars have been more consistent. My endocrinologist is very insistent that I lose some more weight because the medication I'm taking (Metformin and Avandia) isn't helping all the time.
I react really badly to the sugars in fruit so I don't eat very much without adding protein of some kind.
(I jumped into your entry from Bendawg's friends list so forgive me if you've written about this before)

Unfortunately, within my family insulin resistance is a huge issue. I could run a marathon and not lose any weight. I could starve myself and still gain weight.

When I first was diagnosed in 98' I had the "honeymoon" stage of my diabetes. I was keeping my sugars down to non diabetic levels with excellent A1C readings of 5.5.

Currently the honeymoon stage is O-V-E-R and like any bad marriage it won't leave alone! hahah

I just read your profile... Funny thing.. I inherited the gene from my birth parents and lived in foster care. I see you have an MSW in Social Work.

I worked for years and with a group of youth and started a provincial organization that works closely with the local Ministry responsible for Children and youth in and from Government care. This was about 10 years ago.
