As a reader I've come to be an absolute believer in PDF versions of long stories (big bangs or otherwise.) Heck, if they aren't provided, I make them. Also, as a reader, I find I prefer Mediafire for ease of download

I prefer the PDF version myself too. About the host sites, I have only a Mediafire account, and I like it. The only disadvantages that you can only upload at oncle a max. 100 Mb file, if you have a free account. But if you wanna use to upload PDF, I think this site is as good as any. And a real-real good thing is, that there's no waiting time or stupid proove-your-are-not-an-alien-IT before the download.
Yeah, I love having the story all in one piece and page numbers!
And I really prefer Mediafire -- no trying to figure out where the heck the link is or how to get things to work and the wait time isn't long. So it's my inclination to go that route. Thanks for the verification that it's a good option!
I upload my art & pdfs on Dropbox, which is a free service with a 2GB total upload limit, plus you can buy more. As long as you leave it up it'll be downloadable.
I've noticed a higher readership with fic available in PDF format, so I definitely recommend it!
The only thing I notice about how I read PDFs is that if the author hasn't provided a link for comments within the PDF, I'm very unlikely to comment.
Mostly because OMG with SPN the fic overload is staggering even for someone as picky with her tastes as I am. So months can go by (I still have several from last year's bbs as the new ones are loading up!) between downloading and reading, so if the link isn't there....
Then again, if there's no PDF available, the fic automatically goes to the bottom of my read pile (often never to get read.) So PDF + link back for comments is the golden road for me!
Another option is to get an AO3 account and post the longer stuff there, then the reader can download pdf, ebook or whatever. I love that they have that option.
My problem with AO3 is that it's not immediately obvious how to do it. Didn't even realize the option existed until you mentioned it and I DO have an account. Have had it for years.
That's my problem with several of the download service options -- they aren't immediately obvious in how to use them. Often by design as they are pretty much flat out trying to get you to download something else by mistake.
AO3 is actually pretty simple. When you are on the story all you have to do is click on the download in whichever format you want. I've downloaded a few fics this way, including a couple of my own.
I usually use Box . net. It's great as an author because they let you know whenever someone dowloads your story.
Google Sites is another good way of doing it because you can put your story up on the web for people who prefer it that way, and host a pdf for people who prefer to download the story.
