From what I've come to understand about our founding father's and the principles of this country the system was build to keep political and social change a very slow process. They wanted the principles of the country to be able to weather the fickleness of any age, the checks and balances were designed to pass legislation in about 30 years. I am not a republican, I am a democrat by modern standards. But I have this to say about the republicans, they're playing a tough game, they're making very slow subtle changes to our society. The democrats are failing by always pushing for fast and immediate social and legal change. And when they don't get that change they move on to something new to get fired up on. Everything FDR set up was slowly and methodically taken apart after Nixon's years.
