It is still snowing here. We had at least an inch (additional - you know, on top of the two fucking feet we already had) by 7 PM last night. By 11PM we had maybe 4 inches of accumulation. The forecast was for anything between 10 and 20 additional inches of snow. Because, you know, four feet of snow is TOTALLY BETTER than two feet of snow ( Read more... )

Dude, I haven't left my apartment since last Friday. Talk to me about stir crazy!

Also, my crazy sister drove home from VA in the blizzard this morning, because she has spent too many days trapped there and refused to stay any longer.

I am so ready for Spring.

Except, here's the thing: there is no fucking infrastructure here to handle snow.

This is what people do not understand.

I went to school at Syracuse where they routinely got 24-36" of snow several times a winter. The plows were out immediately and they never cancelled classes. On the other hand, I grew up in the DC area, where, as you note, a half inch of snow or even the threat of it causes the government to shut down. Wimpy Washingtonians.

In other news, if you'd like to come over to my house and do MY taxes, I'd really appreciate it...

Ahahahahahahaa no you wouldn't. I pay the nice people to do my taxes for me, because I have been audited by the state and the feds for every single tax year I prepared them myself. Worst was the year I received 3 bills each from the state and the feds for back taxes (I still have no idea what mistakes I made) and had to pay $1000 in back taxes in a year I earned $7,000. (I was in grad school.)

In addition to paying the nice people to prepare my taxes for me, I pay the nice people for an insurance policy that says if I'm audited b/c of a mistake they made, they'll pay the fee for me. O.o

Exactly. In spite of the fact that it snows some every year and alot about one year in five and a metric fuckton about one year in ten, based on my entirely unscientific survey have having lived in or having had family/friends live in the DC area since 1970.
