War & Peace: Director's Cut

It was only a matter of time before the book publishing industry caught up with the DVD industry and started printing "special editions" with "bonus features".

The first two on my radar are matt_ruff's Bad Monkeys and warren_ellis's Crooked Little Vein. Both came out in hardback last year, and both are now getting their paperback releases as "P.S." editions... ( Read more... )

"The Areas of My Expertise" and "America the Book" both had expanded material in the soft cover editions. Both promoted the additional material on the covers.

"America the Book" was issued as a special 'teachers edition', and Hodgeman's book had 200 additional hobo names, 'corrections', and some additional notes.

I think the genie is already out of the bottle.

Yeah, non-novels have been doing this for a little while now. ("If Chins Could Kill" had an additional chapter, "Downsize This!" had additional material, and so on.)
