Today must have been the worst day of the entire year, and the season already as bad as ever. Chansung was silently cursing to himself as he walked back to the changing rooms, and was followed by his concerned team leader. The older boy, a short blond slightly gained some speed to catch up with the younger one. Chansung could feel the smoothly placed palm against his back as the older reached him.
“What’s the matter Chansung-ah? Normally you wouldn’t take a lost game that serious.”
“It’s not the game, Hyung.” Chansung looked at the ground, his facial expression defeated. But finally he stopped and didn’t try to flee again. Chansung was the most sensitive member of the team, and if he felt any negative emotions than he would avoid them and run away. So Jiyong made sure to always have an eye on the younger one so he could follow him if necessary.
“Then tell me what’s wrong with you?” Jiyong sounded so gentle while speaking and was suddenly so close that Chansung could feel the soft brush against his skin. It was impossible to not get lulled and cared away by Jiyong's soft, calming voice. But it shouldn’t be Jiyong comforting him, since his Hyung was the one with the injury. Guilt overtook the younger male, and he couldn’t help but to worry. “Hyung,” his voice was lightly shaking. “Your Knee is bleeding and that’s my fault. I should have been the one blocking that guy. I should have been the one tackled.” He needed some air before he quietly whispered “…I’m so sorry Hyung-nim.” It was an outburst that Jiyong hadn’t expected; definitely out of the ordinary. Chansung was always bubbly and happy.
While he was talking and even after he finished speaking, Chansung didn't look up even once. His eyes were fully glued on the ground, too ashamed to look his Hyung in the eys. A pity, because he missed the warm comforting smile Jiyong would have flashed at him. He felt him shaking his head, though, but he still didn’t dare to glance at him.
“No, it wasn’t your fault. Or are you going to argue with me?” He carefully pushed Chansung against the wall, to try to have a free view of the younger boy’s face. “Are you daring again to try to pamper your Hyung? And disagreeing with your leader?” Jiyong chuckled quietly. “You know I can take care of myself? Can’t I?” He carefully patted Chansung’s head before gently stroking away some of the lost hairs from the younger's sweaty forehead. “Chansungie, I might be not as tall as you, but I’m the captain, right? I can block a opponent too, and if I’m stupid enough to get laid-“
“If you’re saying it like this it sounds like we had sex out there!” The younger one suddenly interrupted Jiyong but at least he was finally grinning. Chansung seemed still insecure but he wasn’t as tense as before.
“Maybe I was talking about sex? What’s the difference, anyway? Hot sweating body’s against hot sweating body’s and-” “Hyuuung~!!” he interjected his Captain yet again, but he sounded more whiny this time. His face was covered in a light reddish that even reached his ears, and Jiyong couldn’t help but laugh. Chansung couldn’t really be that naive, could he?
How could Jiyong just laugh that carefree after such a disaster?
Ah, maybe because Ji-Hyung wasn’t the one who made such a stupid bet! Oh how could he ever have agreed to it? He should have known that it wouldn’t bring him anything good for taking such a risky wager. It was like the unwritten rules of the universe. If you give your life the chance to fuck you, it will gladly take it. So hard that you never will forget the pain in the ass you afterwards have to deal with. And he couldn’t even say he learned the lesson out of his mistakes. Nope, if he would have learned, then he would have bet for cigarettes, money or alcohol instead. He knew his Sunbae smoked and drank, and it would have been a safer bet for Chansung!
Chansung probably could even have convinced the older one to change the open favour to something with a price tag on it. His opponent was a foreign bleached haired male with an angelic like face, but below the surface it hid the dark inside quite well. This man truly had some dirty secrets which Chansung would prefer to not know about. To play with him was stupid, and it was risky, because everybody knew Nichkhun is a sadist!
A bet could mean anything, from a simple blowjob to cross dressing at a crowded public place.
One thing was certain; it would be something evil if it came from Nichkhun.
He still painfully remembered the last favour he owned Nichkhun. He had to wear women's panties in his Taekwondo class. And if this wasn’t shameful enough, his brave but stupid self took another bet. Stamina was all he needed to beat the Thai boy, and so he was sure he could win against the angel faced foreigner. After all it was just a simple training fight. They bet that the loser, which wasn’t Nichkhun unfortunately, had to confess his love in front of anybody in their Dojo.
Because of the one stupid bet, now even his teacher believed that he has a crush on his Sunbae. From that day on, they always wound up training together. In fact he was lucky enough that his martial art teacher himself was gay and had a boyfriend. Unluckily, he also felt like he had to support the young “couple”. From time to time the teacher would flash them a knowing smile, which Nichkhun gladly would return. And often Chansung would catch his Hyung watching him while wearing his pretty but cheeky smile.
Oddly it seemed to be mischievous as if he was lurking. Probably because Khuni’s eyes always had this shifty glimmer, and Chansung sometimes felt so trapped that he had to fight the urge to vomit out of awkwardness. Nichkhun was always one step ahead and would just react in time with one of his gorgeous winks.
All of that humiliation made Chansung's life truly disgraceful and humbling, and today should have been the final act of his desperately needed revenge!
But how could he have known that Taecyeon wouldn’t even feel the need to show up, all because the nerd out of their group preferred a freaking chess tournament over basketball.
How could he?!
He couldn’t know that Joon was forced to go to a family reunion. Since his family almost had to kidnap there own son, they made sure it was to far away for him to jog back. This clumsy fellow had the habit of seeing a competition in almost everything. Knowing Joon, Jiyong wisely switched off his mobile phone, else for sure Joon would have called his leader. Not only out of boredom but also curiosity how the game was doing without him. And he would complain endlessly why his family had to drag him to the other end of the world. Joon also penchant to exaggerate things. He may not be that smart but he was loyal.
He also couldn’t have known that Yongguk would have got beaten up the night before. Somehow he always ended up in trouble. Why did he have to hang out in those shady clubs? Only creepy and shifty guests could enjoy loitering around there, but Yongguk liked the atmosphere of the dim lights and the cheap alcohol. Unfortunately he also had a great talent in pissing off the wrong people and so he quite often got trashed. Jepp loved to play with daring but sincere words so he would never stay quiet until he had his moth beaten shut.
And then there was Junho. Chansung could never have even guessed that perfect Ho fucked up his math test. The corollary was that his parents found out about his terrible low grades in math. Naturally, they weren’t that happy about it and so he wasn’t allowed to play any sports until his grades would switch back to the point which he would actually pass the next semester with. So Junho was grounded and officially off the team until then.
And last of all, Daesung had a broken leg, all because he felt down the school stairs while they were being cleaned. Surprisingly this guy could even smile while falling and later while waiting for the ambulance. Chansung actually was wondering if he either was dumb or really such an angelic person who only sees the bright side of life. Probably he was just high, from all the painkillers the teachers shoved into him. They had all looked slightly panicked and didn’t knew what else to do while there had to wait for the paramedics to show up.
Okay, to be honest, Chansung did know that Daesung had an injury and couldn’t play in his current state. But there was the tiny possibility that he would have miraculously quick recover in those two weeks.
In the end Chansung could only sarcastically laugh about the irony. The only one from the nominated teammates who found their way was the one who couldn’t attend at all.
The game was lost before it even started. Of course like every other team they had substitutes; it was just that they were never meant to be any were else than on the sub bench. Not because Jiyong put them there, neither was it his Coach. No, they simply never even thought about playing basketball. According to their looks and their behaviour, those people were some nameless nerds, and Chansung was pretty sure that the real reason for them to join was the Cheerleader Club. He already noticed that while the team was training, that the subs would stare at the likewise training cheering group. Or in other words there eyes were glued on the boobs and asses of the sexually used girls instead of the training tips their own coach was giving. Chansung felt disgusted by them, and also felt sorry for the male population. It seems that even a geek refused to use his brain when his cock finally started to speak.
He didn’t really like those guys and he hadn’t any good thoughts left about them; unlike Jiyong, who gladly welcomed anybody. And as the good Captain he was, he would support them with hours and hours of extra training. This was in fact pointless, though, since there never got any better. Taecyeon was the only exception; He was not nearly as nerdy as those other guys, and he was tall and really worked hard to improve his skills. Chansung changed his mind about him only, due to respect for his leader’s time. So Taec became, with a lot lost weekends and litre of sweat, a fixed member of the team. One of those members who were meant to stay and nobody even thought about an exchange. Not even for DooJoon who plays soccer, and had no thoughts of leaving his club any time in the near future.
Chansung was sure if DooJoon would have been in his team today he wouldn’t have lost. DooJoon was a team member who even would stay on the court if he had two broken legs. There was just no way he would miss an important play, even if he had to lie to his parents or sneak away. And for a sport man like him, every match was as important as the championship. So it was out of question and never would happen that he let his team go down, especially not for a single sport like chess!
Unlike his nerdy Hyung Taecyeon, who also was associated in a jazz and a science club. And if Chansung reconsider it, Taecyeon never seemed to favoured basketball. Still he spent so much time with the team, and unlike the rest of the subs, strove to become better. Chansung couldn’t help but wonder why Taecyeon actually tried out for their team in the first place. He still could remember the headache he felt after watching Taecyeon’s first trainings lessons.
Why did he join a team sport?
He had a suspicion but he never asked the taller boy about his reason. Maybe he will, but only if he had a damn good excuse for favouring chess!
However, Taecyeon was already an important team mate and someday even Chansung would forgive him for missing the game today.
