TGIF!

I miss those good old shows of the 80s and 90s that came on during TGIF. Step-by-Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs. It's not that these were wonderful shows, it's just the celebration of Friday night tv. Stinking X-Files--that comment being ironic because I was an X-Phile ( Read more... )

I think perhaps all it will do is force the media to clarify what is fact and what is opinion. There have been some ugly rumours about Obama being a terrorist, and in this day and age, that is a DANGEROUS accusation. He had already been targeted for assasination twice before he was even elected because of hateful impressions spewed out from the right wing media.

I understand someone hung a maniquin of Sarah Palin out in their yard for Halloween, and that's retarded, but that's not the same as planning to kill her and 88 people in an Alaskan college.

This is the Fairness Doctrine to which I was referring in this post. (I should edit this post and add it, but I think you saw the subsequent post anyway.)

I seriously doubt it will force the media to clarify what is fact and what is opinion. The media will always get to pick and chose what they deem as important news. It's their show/newspaper, they get to pick what is important and in what the public will be interested.

There is hatred involved in both of those incidents. Though I don't think Obama being a terrorist was spread by any of those shows that are worried about the Fairness Doctrine. At least not in any truthful sort of way. Perhaps in the same dark humor that found the hanging in effigy of Palin as funny. It's just irrational fear that started and perpetuated the terrorist rumor.
