John recording a song written by David Bowie?

I honestly cannot remember which interview it was I read this in, only that it was a very old one, as I've read many interviews of his online (and offline, being a longtime fan). But can anyone tell me if this is true, that he recorded a song written by Mr Bowie who I happen to love as much as I love John as a performer? I've checked the album

I expect this is the interview you read it in. Whether he ever did record it or not I don't know. I can't think of a Bowie song on any of the CDs I have (which as far as I know is pretty well all of them)but I will have a look when I get home. The songs from Matador aren't by Bowie.

That interview was... odd mostly. The references to dating women and having girlfriends and all that. The farting bit was funny, and, well, expected really. I wonder if the closet in the interview is because of network demands in an interview promoting CPW.

He wasn't "officially" out in 1996 so a lot of interviews in the 90s/early 00's talked about "girlfriends" and such. Remember 10 years ago being openly gay could ruin your career - even in the world of musical theatre and certainly when doing children's TV.

I wasn't being critical, and I totally understand why that was. It's just weird reading it nowadays, especially since in more recent interviews he's so open and candid about it.
