John recording a song written by David Bowie?

I honestly cannot remember which interview it was I read this in, only that it was a very old one, as I've read many interviews of his online (and offline, being a longtime fan). But can anyone tell me if this is true, that he recorded a song written by Mr Bowie who I happen to love as much as I love John as a performer? I've checked the album listings on his official site and I would presume it was on the out of print Matador album, perhaps?

Am just curious about two of my favourite performes working together and hoping some people here might be able to give me some more information.
