Someone on my reading list asked an excellent question, and I have one, too.

What is the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?

Another car/event one.

When Rooke and I were trying to get to Freehold for their Yule Feast, one wintry Friday evening. Because of the storm (and his expert navigating) I missed the cutoff for 89 off Hwy 10 (the Townships Rd).

We got off 10 and headed South until we hit a small Border crossing. The guard asked where we were going and his response when I said Burlington was... interesting. "Not this way you're not". He told us how to get back via small rds. At this point, the snow was getting even worse and I could barely make out the road. It was a two lane. I had my hazards on. Suddenly, a pickup blew past us and then slowed down. He made sure I was keeping up with him and if I slowed down, so did he. After about an hour of this, we passed the sign for the 89. He flashed us, pulled into a sideroad and waved as he passed us going back the way he came.

My car was dead, no idea why. and I was on dark stretch of Route 1 in Wakefield. This guy passed me going in the opposite direction and thought to himself "If she is still there, I will see what I can do to help her."
Well I was still there and out of the kindness of his heart, he brought me all the way to Providence.

When I was a junior in high school, one of the customers on my paper route, previously just a person I had delivered papers to and collected money from, took me into his home when I gave desperate eye signals and quietly asked to step inside for a moment to tell him about the stranger who had followed me for half a block, lurking just outside the driveway by this particular house, near a wooded area ( ... )

There have been so many nice strangers in my life, I am not sure if this was the nicest. It certainly was the largest collective group of them. And because it was recent, it is still fresh in my mind. While we on vacation this year and at Busch Gardens Rosemary had sunstroke, and nearly passed out. We were dead center in one of those house of lines, waiting for the log plume to get wet to help with the heat ( ... )
