Yes and YES! My thinky thoughts will be short this time out because I agree with you completely here. Even while this seems like an apocalyptic moment between the brothers, it is a step in the direction they both must take towards forging the mature and stronger bond that really will make them invincible and finally prove that they are stronger together

Evening ProfessorI LOVED this episode, and in particular I loved how this episode forced Sam to take a good, hard look at himself and his motivations. And I was so proud of Sam, at the end - he's really taking stock of himself and of the faults that he has that lead (in part) to his fall last season. Sam's definately got some serious self-reflection to do, but I know that it'll do him good, and I can't wait to see the growth that comes out of it

First I just have to say "I agree" on your whole section on the Apocalypse. I really like your thoughts on the end of the series. I have been thinking alot about that the past couple of weeks and haven't gotten it all worked out but it's along your same line of thought. Also, a thought I had on the premiere (in the scene with the boys in the car on the way to Chucks)Sam finally turns the radio off because of the bad news, the news sure is a lot creepier when you know the devil is loose!
Second, I just spent a good two hours on Supernatural.tv on a thread I had never seen. It is all BTS pics and neat info on the production. To copy my thoughts from there, sometimes it might seem that learning about all the tricks to make a film or show might ruin the magic, but in this case it makes me appreciate the magic SO much more.
About Sam's addiction - *It’s part of what any addict has to face and work though as well: that it’s not the drugs or the alcohol that makes the addict, but the human drivers and needs within.* Not to get really deep and personal but I like this. I honestly had not given Sam's blood drinking much thought, not as an addiction really. The past few months I have had some of my own issues and a realization about what I am now seeing as a somewhat addictive pattern, and that I am having to work on stuff.. and work on stuff.. and keep working on stuff. You get the picture I'm sure - for me it's like a switch went off - much like one went off for Sammy.
All I can say is that I agree with most everything you said. I'm sad about Sam and Dean but I'm thrilled that Kripke and company are trying to deal with the break between them as realistically as possible. I would have been disappointed if they were both able to move on without events having changed them and their relationship

Heh, it will never cease to amaze me how much alike we are, Mary. *g* I think I wrote pretty much exactly the same in my review, so obviously I totally agree with you. :)
Mostly I draw my hat at Sera Gamble's stunning character work here. The fact that the writers seem to be willing to take Sam and Dean's relationhip and actually move it to a new place makes me so, so happy. We see both characters incredibly mature and responsible in this episode, I can't wait to see how their development unfolds! :)
And again she does the great meta!!!! I've done some of my own and you know I'm always keen to see what you think so I have no shame in asking you to stop by. *g

Read your meta, loved it, gotta find time to comment on it ... I owe you for something lovely in it that's going to flavor future things for me! (I have to look at it again to remember what it was, because I am so very fried ...)
On John: I agree with you. I never believed Alastair on how daddy held out so much longer than his little girl - that demon scum knew all of Dean's buttons, and just how much that shame would hurt. Gods-rotted SOB. The only way the demons would have known that John wasn't the righteous man of prophecy (assuming they ever thought he was) would have been that John broke and the first Seal didn't - because we all know that everyone breaks. That's what Hell is, after all.
It tickles me that the amulet has found a purpose, when it started just as one of Jensen's selections out of a random box of stuff - along with the ring and the first bracelet - to use to help define and illustrate the character of Dean. Tee-hee!
And yeah, I know all about fried. I don't want to look too closely at the next couple of weeks.
Must say, I kind of admire Alastair in his purity. He was very very very good at what he did.
As for the evolution of the amulet, once my life anywhere near resembles sanity I'm going to do a post about stuff like that because it goes to the heart of the creative process that a lot of fans don't seem to really understand, and it makes me sad when they slam the writers for doing what writers do.
Please do that piece, Karen! It frustrates me when people get pissed off because a creative choice seems to counter what an earlier comment led them to expect. This fandom is a sterling example. Eric Kripke said early on that he had a five year story arc; partway through, he said there wouldn't be angels in his world - well, not the sweet and fluffy kind - and then came season four and the addition of Castiel, Uriel, Zachariah, and the absence of God from heaven, and speculation about a new chapter of Supernatural possibly beginning after the initial 5-year apocalyptic arc concludes. And a segment of fandom went batshit on the belief that all those things were fatally inconsistent.
I loved this episode, while - or maybe because - at the same it broke my heart. The separation of the boys wasn't a surprise, at least not for me. I was waiting for it since S&V. What had me in tears was Dean's 'You wanna take the Impala?' and Sam caressing the car one last time. A display of how much they still love each other and care for each other, but aren't able to be together right now. *sighs* I just can hope that it is getting better.
I'm with you on hoping that it will get better between them, and soon! They need this time and this sad honesty, and they're going to be the better and the stronger for it (and the wiser), but oh, it hurts so much. And the measure of this show is that it hurts us as much as it hurts them.
This season promises so damn much, I don't want to wait for it!
