I don't have a gallbladder anymore, and I do just fine. It's not quite as useless as the appendix, but it's not really necessary. I'll keep good thoughts for your dad's surgery. *pat* *pat*

Sobered up yet? *g*

As I remember the explanation I got, the gallbladder is basically the thing that takes in bile from the liver and squirts it into the stomach to help you digest food, particularly food with fats. Most often people have it removed when they have a gallstone(s), because then the squirting motion tightens the gallbladder around the stone(s) and make them hurt. This is often in response to high-fat foods that people first notice. The surgery is semi-elective usually, which means you don't have to have it, but it's really very much recommended ( ... )

Gall bladders aren't that important. They store bile, and as I understand it, you can completely live without your gall bladder. Mom had hers removed 10+ years ago.

::hugs to you/family/Dad::

I also had my gallbladder out last year (year before?) and erm, well, I can't say that it ruined my life? They make little cuts in your abdomin and stick robot arms in you and deflate the damn thing and yank it out through your belly button. [Yes, really] And then your stomach hurts for like a week and all is better again. Tah-dah!

Except you have to watch the amounts of fat that you eat forevermore because of things that lead to TMI. In other words, your dad should be FINE.

*cuddles* Am glad you live. And am glad you're having a good time right about now! :)

i am so relieved that so many of you guys are coming here all "psh, we're all gallbladder free!" cause i <3 my dad like whoa and i tend to worry. so, thanks.

i am also glad i live! i am more glad that i SLEEP though, because this has been the most insane sleepless two months of my life but in about two weeks things will slow down and i can maybe catch up on the internets! ::loves::
