Maybe you know this - an Israeli asked me and I felt stupid for not knowing. Why do some states have primaries and some don't? And some do for only one party?

don't know the answer to the first question, though I am trying to find out. For the second, state political parties schedule the primaries. usually they go together, sometimes they don't.
