Sewing Machine *yay*

Sep 11, 2006 18:02

I am now the owner of an old (pre 60s) Singer Sewing machine which needs a little TLC (rewiring and oiling). From what we can tell it hasn't been used since approx 1995 and was bought for £30 second hand (and refurbished) in 1993 (receipt still taped to the inside of the box ( Read more... )

Ooh shiny. Would you like me to send you one of my 1970s Singer bottom bobbins on loan to see if it fits? Also, do you have a threading-up diagram for the top? If you don't and it's not obvious to you how to do it, I could probably figure it out from mine if you post a photo of it.

I'm sorry I didn't reply to the comment you left on one of my posts about this before I went to Japan, by the way - I was being disorganised.

I'll take some pictures in a bit and upload them if you'd be willing to look at me. My mum worked out how to thread it from the top and showed me how, it is just the bottom bobbin thing which is weird.

I'll take pictures of the bottom bobbin thing too, to see if anyone has come across something similar. It could just be that it needs oiling as we were playing with it at my mum's house.

No worries re non-comments, I know I don't always comment on stuff I intend to. I will mark all my sewing posts as sewing so that those who know stuff (such as yourself *grin*) will be able to spot them amongst the other usual crap that I post. :)

Does it have a foot pedal or a knee crank?

Not now, but originally I think it may have done as it looks like it used to fit into a table and have a knee crank or foot pedal.

It has been retrofitted with an electric motor and had a base screwed onto the bottom of it so it can stand alone.

See the pictures I've got at http://www.barakta.org.uk/singer/ .

That looks like an industrial model, the cord is in a weird position, but see how it's cloth covered? That's probably original. Mum had an early electrical Singer with a knee crank thing, but it was black and ornate and the base was wood. It didn't have those controls on it either.

I have a similar vintage Singer, non bodged and with original manuals. I'm sure they had lots of different models, so it probably isn't the same one, but you're welcome to come and visit it :-)

We should come and say hello one of the times we are in Nottingham, it has been ages since we've seen you. You can see pictures at http://www.barakta.org.uk/singer/ which will get updated as we play with the machine and indeed get better pictures sorted out.

Hi, I don't know if you remember me - we met at Manchester BiFest and Poly Day. I'm Katie - shadowed Matt P for most of the time at both of those events. I've added you; I hope you don't mind.

Hi. *Waves* Bi_dancer13 said to pop by & say hello & that she'd let you know (warn you ;-)) that I would be.

She tells me that you made an amazing job of filling in your DLA forms & that it'd probably help me fill ine in no end if I took a look at yours.

Anyway, I'm useless at doing this introduction thing so I'll bugger off now!
